I had no relationship with my biological dad, and my relationship with my stepdad was strained when I was younger. Because of that, I often find myself staring at fathers and daughters. I love to see the way a dad smiles when he sees his little girl or the excitement of a daughter when her daddy picks her up. There’s something so special about the father-daughter bond.
When I see these moments, I can’t help but think about my Heavenly Father. I wonder:
– Does He smile when I wake up in the morning?
– Does He long to hear my voice?
– Is He happy just to spend time with me?
Dear sisters, the answer to all of these questions is a resounding YES!
A Journey Through Fatherhood
Yet, as beautiful as this truth is, I’ve often struggled to believe it. Growing up, my biological father denied me, and when my mom remarried, my stepfather didn’t claim me either. My life felt like an episode of Maury, but no one was “The Baby’s Father.”
For years, I carried the sting of rejection. But over time, I’ve come to know there is a Father who has claimed me as His own—God. He is the perfect Father, the one who sees me, loves me, and provides for me.
When I reflect on God’s love, I’m reminded that our view of God is so important. How we see Him shapes our relationship with Him, with others, and with ourselves. If we see God as distant, harsh, or uninvolved, it can be hard to trust Him fully.
But imagine what your life could be like if you truly trusted God as a loving Father—one who delights in you!
Bible Verses About God as Father
The Bible is filled with verses that reveal the heart of God as our Father. These have been such a comfort to me on my journey to trust Him.
1. God Welcomes Us as His Children
– “See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God!” (1 John 3:1)
2. God Provides for His Children
– “Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your Heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?” (Matthew 6:26)
3. God Knows Our Needs
– “Your Father knows what you need before you ask him.” (Matthew 6:8)
4. God Celebrates Our Return
– “But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and was filled with compassion for him; he ran to his son, threw his arms around him and kissed him.” (Luke 15:20)
5. God Adopts Us into His Family
– “The Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship. And by him we cry, ‘Abba, Father.’” (Romans 8:15)
6. God is a Father to the Fatherless
– “A father to the fatherless, a defender of widows, is God in His holy habitation.” (Psalm 68:5)
How Do We Know God is Our Father?
If you’ve ever doubted that God is your Father, take comfort in these truths:
1. Jesus Declared It: When the disciples asked Jesus how to pray, He began with “Our Father in heaven…” (Matthew 6:9). Jesus invited us to call God “Father” because He is.
2. We Are Adopted into His Family:
– “God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under the law, to redeem those under the law, that we might receive adoption to sonship.” (Galatians 4:4-5)
3. God Loves Us Deeply: Over and over, Scripture reminds us of God’s immense love for us as a Father.
You Are the Apple of His Eye
Sisters, take these words to heart. Your Heavenly Father loves you beyond measure. He sees you as the apple of His eye, the child He chose and redeemed. He’s not just a distant Creator—He’s “The Baby’s Father,” and you are His.
Reflect on these verses when doubt creeps in:
– “He found him in a desert land and in the wasteland, a howling wilderness; He encircled him, He instructed him, He kept him as the apple of His eye.” (Deuteronomy 32:10)
– “But now, O Lord, You are our Father; We are the clay, and You our potter; And all we are the work of Your hand.” (Isaiah 64:8)
– “Your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.” (Matthew 6:4)
A Prayer for Trusting God as Father
Lord, help us to see You as our loving Father. When the night feels dark and the tears flow, remind us that You are near. You hear us, hold us, and love us with a steadfast love we can’t find anywhere else.
Yes, Abba. Yes, Daddy. You are everything we need.
